Title |
Emergence of unique biological functions triggered by microbe-driven interspecific relationships
Abstract
In natural environments, microorganisms generally coexist with other microorganisms and/or multicellular eukaryotes such as animals. There, we can see fascinating collaborations between them, sometimes resulting in the emergence of unexpected biological functions. Two research topics on unexpected interspecific relationship that can create new functions, as revealed by transcriptome analysis, will be presented: (1) Heavy-oil degradation by cooperation of denitrifiers and nitrifiers; (2) Insecticide detoxification by cooperation of a host insect and a symbiont bacterium.
