Title |
Probing the Secrets of Giant Viruses through the Behavior of Amoebas
|
Abstract
|
Genomics and morphological analysis of giant viruses are gradually
revealing their ecological and evolutionary significance. However, it is
often forgotten how the host organisms, unicellular eukaryotic
microorganisms, cope with giant virus infection and how giant viruses
affect the hosts. We have recently developed a computational tool to
quantify the morphology and behavior of Acanthamoeba. With the tool we
aim to identify infecting infecting viruses, and at the same time, we
are studying the effects of giant viruses on the behavior of
Acanthamoeba and Vermamoeba, the latter showing remarkable morphological
changes during culture. I would like to introduce these results in this
seminar.
